What is the Jaycees?
The Jaycees (also called the Junior Chamber of Commerce) is an international organization reaching over 100 countries. It is a group of young men and women between the ages of 21 to 39 who take an active role in the community through various projects stressing leadership, networking, social interaction and personal development. We also try to have as much fun as possible!
Who are the Council Bluffs Jaycees?
We were founded in June 1933 and have been active in Council Bluffs for 72 consecutive years. Our first community project was to raise $75,000 (during the Great Depression) to dredge Lake Manawa, which had completely silted in. After completion, the chapter won a national award in the area of conservation.
A more recent large community prject, was the building of the Dream Playground at Lake Manawa durning the 1990s. We are one of 52 chapters in Iowa and currently have over 40 members.
What can the Council Bluffs Jaycees provide its members?
The Jaycees not only provides opportunities in individual and professional development, organizational and business training, but also in leadership training through community involvement in service projects, and city events. Members gain experience beyond what they can learn from their own careers.
Why Should I Join the Council Bluffs Jaycees?
You can gain leadership and management experience through community service and chapter projects. You help decide what community service projects we take on and through them you can grow as a professional and as an individual. Besides that though, you'll meet young people like yourself with an interest in making a difference in Council Bluffs. You'll build friendships and community connections as well.
